What is Surf Skate?

Simply put, a surfskate is a skateboard for surfing on the street. It is a modification of traditional skateboards. Surfskates have a specially designed front axle that allows riders to simulate the motion, feel and fluidity of surfing.

The wheels of the Surfskate allow very tight and smooth turns and typical surfing maneuvers. On a surfskate, you can ride in the city, practice in bowls, curves, or even transport yourself. It is different from traditional skateboarding and focuses a lot on surfing movements, typically S-shapes and curves in the trajectory that is being drawn. Much of the work in this sport is with the ankles and knees, but a lot of it is with the hips and abdominal muscles.

Just like in surfing, you can move a surfskate from side to side to generate speed, without pushing your foot into the street. On good terrain, you can ride a surfskate as long as you can without touching the ground. The idea is to find a rhythm or 'flow' with your back leg. In fact, you can even go uphill!

At El Canal, we have created a Surfskate track specifically for this type of skateboard and specifically for surfing. Inspired by intermediate waves of the Pacific coast, such as Boca Barranca and Pavones, easy and long waves, the skateboard simulates running a medium and long wave like these. In the center there is a space to practice from scratch, to begin to test the balance. In the lower part you can also ride a bike, skates and other equipment. The highest part of the wave simulates the peak of the wave, where you try to 'make a cut' or go back down and pick up more speed.

Surfskate is very entertaining and also very inclusive. Women, boys, girls and people of all ages can learn. We have organized events to promote the use of this very special amenity with instructors who are experts in teaching movement. Just like learning to ride a bike, surfing, skateboarding, rollerblading, rollerblading and sports of balance and coordination require patience. The first few attempts may bring frustration, fear, and mixed feelings, but with a little persistence and repetition, it can be accomplished. The feeling of 'flowing' on the rink and feeling the body roll is very rich and worthwhile.

In addition, it is a cardiovascular sport. This implies that 30 minutes or more you are already working on burning calories, muscle strength and heart strength, improving your circulation, among other physical benefits. Additionally, you will be working on balance, control, coordination and posture. By activating and working these parts of your brain and cerebellum, you will be adding neural connections and allowing the body to develop new motor patterns.

Surf skateboarding is unique, challenging, liberating. We are very happy and proud to include a skate park as an amenity in El Canal Condominium. All our designs and our constructions are all thought in the well being, in the detail, in creating spaces for recreation, rest and comfort. This skate park is just one more place where you can create routine in a healthy and happy lifestyle.
